Salt relaunched in November 2023, after a covid enforced 2 year hiatus. The first few months were great as guests came back to visit. Salt thrived for 15 years in Gastown and a lot of people were happy to see it re-opened. For a variety of reasons: inflation, insurance costs, covid hangover, etc the numbers started to fall, and the sales dwindled. Two weeks ago we made the difficult decision to relaunch Salt as a Sandwich Shop, and open days instead of nights.

Salt is owned by Seán and Erin Heather (they own The Irish Heather too). Seán’s true passion has always been delicatessens and their sandwiches. An obsession that started when Seán worked at Benny’s Bagels in Kits from ‘91 to ‘95. Benny;s was a 24 hour, bagel bakery cafe with great sandwiches, pies and coffee.

Salt has always had access to amazing salami, cheese and condiments. Instead of using them for tasting plates we are now putting them in sandwiches.

So, join us as Salt sets out on this new path, offering tasty sandwiches and salads.
